Note that the U.S. failed to follow rule of law and have actually conducted themselves as pirates unleashed.

The Kingdom of Hawaii was more advanced than the U.S. because of the fact that in 1852, the first anti-slavery law was passed by Kamehameha III, and the U.S. passed their law in 1865 after the assassination of U.S. President Abraham Lincoln.

This article is dated 1902 and the Americans disregarded the anti-slavery laws at that time.
