The following article shows that France had a Protectorate over two (2) islands of the Kingdom of Hawaii named Gambier and Wallis Islands:

Note:  France, Great Britain, and the U.S. had a Protectorate over the Kingdom of Hawaii in 1854 and all three nations breached the stipulations of the Protectorate:
